The KF Modified Enhancement Project

3Jan2014 at 10:12 am (Enhancements) (, , )

Our long serving KF Modified champion, Humayun Rashid, has written a wonderful article on the various expansion and enhancement projects that have been introduced to KF Modified since its inception.  “The KF Modified Enhancement Project: Evolution in a Digital Era” appears in vol. 38, no. 3/4 of the Canadian Law Library Review/Revue canadienne des bibliothèques de droit.

This paper provides an historical overview and includes a number of examples from the classification schedule to illustrate the rational, principles and development of these enhancements.  Rashid describes the Project as an ongoing initiative that aims to provide “the best possible subject-oriented approach to researching and accessing materials emanating from all common law jurisdictions.” And he concludes that this ongoing work indicates that the “KF Modified classification is very much alive and well.” (p. 161)

Rashid also includes this invitation to the KF Modified user community:

“… the Editorial Board is open to all suggestions from users, and warmly welcomes new ideas or proposals for any potential projects.  The KF Modified user community is encouraged to submit their comments and ideas to the Chair, Subcommittee on Classification [Rashid] or KF Modified Committee [Tim] for consideration by the Editorial Board.”

I would add that suggestions can also be submitted through the KF Modified Blog.

Work on the third and fourth quarterly updates for KF Modified will begin shortly and recent enhancements to taxation law and privacy law will be incorporated.

All the best to all of you for the coming year!
